I happen to be in the market for some crazy pants and was seconds away from impulse buying these pants when I checked the comments and immediately put my money back in my wallet.

Now, this isn't to say that all negative comments detract from sales; sometimes controversy actually helps you on Meta/TikTok (one of my client's top-performing ads has a bunch of negative comments because people don't like how the model applies her lipstick π), but when the negative comments are about the buying experience or quality of the product, then you're definitely about to lose money.
